Cultivating cross-cultural connections for impactful SRHR work

Tigist Desalegn, an exchange program participant from Ethiopia placed at YWCA Meru branch in Kenya, embarked on a transformative journey focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Her most significant change during this experience was her impactful work with young people, particularly in primary schools. She established an SRHR mentorship program, forming meaningful connections with the students and participants, which greatly facilitated her work.

Beyond her professional growth, Tigist experienced a personal transformation during her stay in Kenya. Initially apprehensive about fitting into a new culture and environment, she found solace in the warm welcome and support from the Meru Branch, making her feel at home. Outside of work, she embraced the opportunity to live abroad independently for the first time. Tigist forged new friendships, explored the county, and enriched her life through travel and exploration.

As she reflects on her journey, Tigist expresses her gratitude to Norec for the invaluable opportunity that has not only enhanced her skills but also transformed her as a person. She emphasizes the importance of passing on the connections and collaborations she has built to the next participant, highlighting the enduring impact of her time at YWCA Meru branch.
