Youth Employability and Empowerment Programme (YEEP)

This program equips young people with practical vocational and life skills to improve employment opportunities with an aim to reduce youth unemployment and economic vulnerability in Kisumu County.
Key training areas include:

  • Hospitality management
  • Electrical installation
  • Entrepreneurship and life skills

 

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

Through school outreach and youth forums, the program promotes informed decision-making and improved health outcomes for young women and girls.
The SRHR program focuses on:

  • Sexual and reproductive health education
  • Youth mentorship and counseling
  • Peer education initiatives
  • Referrals to health services

 

 

Climate Change

YWCA Kisumu branch collaborates with climate change stakeholders and the County Directorate of Climate Change to address climate change impacts on vulnerable communities in the LREB region, promoting inclusive climate action and community resilience.
Activities include:

  • Community climate adaptation planning
  • Engagement of youth and women in environmental initiatives
  • Climate awareness and policy dialogue

 

 

Young Women Champions (YWC) Leadership Training

The Young Women Champions initiative trains young women as advocates and community leaders. The program designed to engage YWCA YW members, strengthens female leadership and civic participation.
Objectives:

  • Raise awareness on women’s rights
  • Advocate for gender equality
  • Engage communities on social issues affecting women and girls

 

 

Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE)

The branch works closely with youth, faith leaders, and community groups to address youth radicalization and prevent involvement of Youth in acts of violent extremism. These efforts have proven meaningful in building community resilience and social cohesion.

Activities include:

  • Peace training
  • Community dialogue forums
  • Youth leadership initiatives
  • Interfaith engagement

 

 

Economic Empowerment Initiatives

YWCA Kisumu Branch also supports women entrepreneurs. The initiative addresses challenges faced by women, such as limited capital, market access, and business knowledge
Aim of the Initiatives:

  • Train women in business management
  • Link women entrepreneurs to markets
  • Promotes women-led enterprises

 

 

Creative and Talent Development

The branch has introduced youth-focused creative programs such as:

1. Sanaa Shinani Program

The Sanaa Shinani Program is a youth-focused creative training initiative hosted at the YWCA Kisumu Studio.
The programme equips young creatives with practical digital media and storytelling skills that can open pathways into the creative economy.
Participants receive hands-on training in:

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Digital storytelling
  • Content creation and monetization


2. YWCA Kisumu Model casting and Miss Ability

YWCA Kisumu Model Casting provides a platform for young people interested in fashion, modelling, and creative performance.
The initiative supports young talents to build confidence, develop presentation skills, and access opportunities within the creative and fashion industries.
The program also promotes positive body image, self-expression, and professionalism among participants.
