International Day of Zero Tolerance to FGM
06 February, 2021
FGM is a harmful cultural practice & a human rights violation that impedes on the rights of women and girls including sexual and reproductive health and exposes them to serious health, psychological, physical, social effects
YWCA Kenya joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. This is an awareness day marked every 6th February to educate the public on issues of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), to amplify and direct the efforts on the elimination of this practice. This year’s theme was No Time for Global Inaction, Unite, Fund, and Act to End Female Genital Mutilation. The theme seeks to promote the elimination of FGM through coordinated and systematic efforts.
In commemorating the day, we hosted a #TweetChat engaging young women champions to discuss ways to eliminate this harmful cultural practice of #FGM. The various YWCA branches also engaed in activities to mark the day.
