World Wetlands Day
02 February, 2021
World Wetlands Day (WWD) is a global event that takes place every year to raise global awareness on the importance of wetlands for people and the world. This year’s theme Wetlands & Water shone a spotlight on wetlands as a source of freshwater. To mark the day, YWCA Kenya hosted an online event to create awareness on the importance of conserving water bodies in Mombasa and Kisumu, which hosts the largest fresh water lake in the continent.
The Zoom meeting, slogan: Conserve Wetlands for Better Health took place on 2nd February 2021 and engaged the Youth Champions through:
- Creating awareness on climate resilient approaches and addressing marginalization and inequalities amongst the Youth especially PWDs, women and girls involvement in Climate Actions.
- Highlighting the importance of the physical clean-up and tree growing campaigns aimed at commemorating the event all over the Country.
The meeting provided unique insights into young people’s involvement in addressing climate issues at this challenging time for the world.
