Walk & Talk Event to commemorate International Women’s Day
More than a 100 young men and women from all walks of life took part in a 2.5km walk to commemorate International Women’s Day. The event was held in Embakasi central on Monday 8th March. This year’s theme was “Choose to Challenge” calling on individuals to show their commitment to choose to challenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.
Organized by YWCA Kenya and partners the aim of the walk was to raise awareness on the need for women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, so as to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and to engage & to participate in the global movement to promote a gender inclusive society.
After the walk there was a short but informative session where participants engaged in a dialogue which called for women’s right to decision-making in all areas of life, and an end all forms of violence against women and girls.
